আটলান্টিকসংবাদ ডেস্ক: গত ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর,২০২৬ বুধবার সন্ধ্যায় বেঙ্গল ক্লাব অব আটলান্টিক সিটির নিজস্ব কার্যালয়ে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়ে গেল বর্তমানে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অবস্থানরত দেশী এবং যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিভিন্ন মিডিয়ার সাথে সম্পৃক্ত সাংবাদিকদের উপস্থিতিতে সংবাদ সম্মেলন। সংবাদ সন্মেলনে উপস্থিত ছিলেন সাউথ জার্সির বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক, সামাজিক, সাংস্কৃতিক ও আঞ্চলিক সংগঠনের নেতৃবৃন্দ এবং সচেতন সুশীল সমাজের প্রতিনিধিরাসহ প্রায় শতাধিক প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশী।
সংবাদ সন্মেলনে লিখিত বক্তব্য পাঠ করেন বেঙ্গল ক্লাবের অর্থ সম্পাদক হেলাল হাসান। বক্তব্যের শুরুতেই তিনি বলেন কোন ব্যক্তি বা সংগঠনকে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে আক্রমণ করে কথা বলা তাদের সংবাদ সন্মেলনের মূল উদ্দেশ্য নয়। শহীদ মিনারের মর্যাদা রক্ষা করা এবং কমিউনিটির ঐক্য ও সম্মিলিত অধিকারের পক্ষে কথা বলাই তাদের সংবাদ সন্মেলনের মূল লক্ষ্য।আগামী দিনগুলোতে সামাজিক, রজনৈতিক,সাংস্কৃতিক ও আঞ্চলিক সংগঠনগুলোকে একত্রিত করে সম্মিলিতভাবে একুশ উদ্যাপনে প্লাটফর্ম সৃষ্ঠির জন্য সচেতনতা তৈরীর জন্যই তাদের এই সংবাদ সন্মেলন। অনুষ্ঠানে সচেতন নাগরিক হিসাবে বক্তব্য রাখেন লেখক সাংবাদিক ইব্রাহীম চৌধুরী, হেলাল হাসান, আলী চৌধুরী, সাংবাদিক সুব্রত চৌধুরী, সাংবাদিক মোহাম্মদ শাহিন,মোহাম্মদ দিদার, ফারুক তালুকদার,শেখ আমীন,সাঈদ দোহা,পাপলু চৌধুরী, আসাল নিউজার্সী চেপ্টার সভাপতি ফারুক হোসেন,এনামুল হক,সবুর মিয়া, জাকির হোসেন, মনিরুল আলম বাবু,শেখ আমীন,আওলাদ হোসেইন এবং সাংবাদিক আকবর হোসাইন।
অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তারা ভবিষ্যতে যাতে কোন অনাকাংখিত পরিস্থিতির উদ্ভব না হয় সেজন্য কমিউনিটির সকলকে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করার আহবান জানান। সংবাদ সম্মেলনে আটলান্টিক সিটি স্কুল বোর্ডের নির্বাচিত সদস্য এবং স্বনামধন্য সাংবাদিক সুব্রত চৌধুরীকে উদ্দেশ্য করে আক্রমনাত্ক বক্তব্যের তীব্র নিন্দা জানান হয়।
হেলাল হাসান তার লিখিত বক্তব্যে চারটি বিষয়ের প্রতি বিশেষ গুরুত্বারোপ করেন।
প্রথমত, শহীদ মিনারের পূর্ণ ইতিহাস সংরক্ষণ ও উপস্থাপন করে ২০২৩ থেকে বর্তমান পর্যন্ত সংশ্লিষ্ট সকল ব্যক্তি ও সংগঠনের অবদান যথাযথভাবে স্বীকৃতি দেওয়া হোক।
দ্বিতীয়ত, ভবিষ্যতে শহীদ মিনার ও একুশের মতো সর্বজনীন কর্মসূচিতে রাজনৈতিক, সামাজিক, সাংস্কৃতিক ও আঞ্চলিক সংগঠন, প্রেস ক্লাব, লায়ন্স ক্লাব, বিজনেস অ্যাসোসিয়েশন এবং অন্যান্য সক্রিয় কমিউনিটি প্রতিনিধিদের সঙ্গে উন্মুক্ত আলোচনা ও সমন্বয় করা হোক।
তৃতীয়ত, শহীদ মিনারকে কোনো ব্যক্তি, সংগঠন বা সীমিত গোষ্ঠীর একক কৃতিত্ব বা নিয়ন্ত্রণের প্রতীক না বানিয়ে পুরো কমিউনিটির সর্বজনীন স্মৃতিসৌধ হিসেবে মর্যাদা দেওয়া হোক।
চতুর্থত, ব্যক্তিগত ও সাংগঠনিক মতবিরোধ শহীদ মিনারের বাইরে রেখে প্রয়োজনে আলোচনার মাধ্যমে সমাধান করা হোক।
বক্তারা স্পষ্ট করেন, তাঁরা কাউকে শত্রু ঘোষণা করতে আসেননি, কোনো সংগঠনের অবদান খাটো করতেও আসেননি, এবং পাল্টা বিভাজনও চান না। তাঁদের ভাষায়, “আমরা সংঘাত চাই না—সম্মান চাই। আমরা আধিপত্য চাই না—অংশগ্রহণ চাই। আমরা একক কৃতিত্ব চাই না—ইতিহাসের যোগ্য স্বীকৃতি চাই। আমরা বিভাজন চাই না—ঐক্য চাই।“
তিনি বলেন তাদের দাবিগুলো প্রতিষ্ঠা করা গেলে শহীদ মিনার শুধু স্মৃতিস্তম্ভ হিসাবে দাড়িয়ে থাকবেনা,এর মাধ্যমে একুশের চেতনা প্রতিষ্ঠিত হবে এবং এই শহীদ মিনার হয়ে উঠবে আমাদের একতার প্রতীক।
শহীদ মিনার আমাদের ভাষা সংগ্রামের ইতিহাস এবং অস্তিত্বের প্রতীক। আটলান্টিক সিটিতে একটি শহীদ মিনার প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে, প্রবাসে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশীদের জন্য অনেক বড় গর্বের বিষয়।কিন্তু গর্বের বিষয়টি ঘিরে তৈরী হয়েছে দ্বন্ধ, বিভাজন, হতাশা এবং ক্ষোভ। তার কারনগুলোর মধ্যে অন্যতম হচ্ছে উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় সংগীত পরিবেশন না করা , ভাষা শহীদদের স্মরণে এক মিনিট নীরবতাও পালন না করা,সামাজিক সংগঠনগুলোর নেতৃবৃন্দের প্রতি অশ্রদ্ধা প্রদর্শন, সিটিতে বসবাসরত মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদেরকে অবমূল্যায়ন, শিক্ষা, সংস্কৃতি এং সাংবাদিকতার সাথে সম্পৃক্ত বাংলাদেশীদের প্রতি অশ্রদ্ধা এবং অশালীন আচরন। জাতীয় স্বার্থের চেয়ে যখন ক্ষমতার দাম্ভিকতা এবং কৃতিত্ব নেওয়ার প্রতিযোগিতা বেড়ে যায় তখন আর গর্বের বিষয়গুলো গর্বের থাকেনা।
স্থায়ী শহীদ মিনার নির্মানে সার্বিকভাবে সহযোগিতা করেছে সিটি অব আটলান্টিক সিটি এবং আর্থিকভাবে সহযোগিতা করেছে ডাকটাউন সিডিসি। সুতারাং শহীদ মিনার নির্মাণের কৃতিত্বের দাবিদার সিটি অব আটলান্টিক সিটি এবং ডাকটাউন সিডিসি। প্রশ্ন দেখা দিয়েছে নির্মানে কারা সিটি অব আটলান্টিক সিটি এবং ডাকটাউন সিডিসিকে অনুরোধ অথবা উৎসাহ যুগিয়েছেন। আটলান্টিক সিটিসহ নিকটবর্তী শহরগুলোতে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশীরা এখানে বসবাস শুরু করেছেন দীর্ঘ তিনযুগ পূর্বে। সংগঠনপ্রিয় বাংলাদেশীরা গত ৩৫ বছরে বিভিন্ন সময়ে বিভিন্নভাবে স্থায়ী শহীদ মিনার নির্মানের দাবি এবং অনুরোধ করেছেন বিভিন্ন সামাজিক অনুষ্ঠানে।কোন একক সংগঠন অথবা ব্যক্তি নয়। তাদের এই দাবির পরিপ্রক্ষিতে সিটি কর্তৃপক্ষের দেওয়া জায়গায় এবং ডাকটাউন সিডিসি অনুদানে নির্মিত হয়েছে এই স্মৃতির স্থাপনা। এর পেছনে আমাদের কমিউনিটির অনেক মানুষের দীর্ঘদিনের প্রচেষ্টা, শ্রম ও স্বপ্ন জড়িয়ে আছে। এই স্থাপনার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে সাউথজার্সীতে বাংলাদেশীরা খুঁজে পাবেন নিজেদের আত্মপরিচয়ের অহংকার, শিকড়ের স্পর্শ এবং বাংলা ভাষা তথা আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষার ইতিহাসের সঙ্গে এক গভীর যোগসূত্র। যা প্রবাসে বেড়ে উঠা নতুন প্রজন্মের কাছে গর্ব এবং প্রেরনার উৎস হিসাবে কাজ করবে এবং স্বরণ করবে ভাষার জন্য জীবন দেওয়া বীর শহীদদের এবং মাতৃভাষার অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠার সেই গৌরবময় সংগ্রামকে।
গত ৩০ সেপ্টেম্বর,২০২৬ বুধবার অনুষ্ঠিত সংবাদ সম্মেলন দেখে নিউজার্সির সাউথজার্সীতে বসবাসরত অসংখ্য বাংলাদেশী ভাবছেন শহীদ মিনার উদ্বোধন করতে গিয়ে আনন্দিত না হয়ে কেন নিজেদের মধ্যে ঝগড়া–বিবাদ অথবা কাঁদা ছোড়াছোড়ি।
স্থানীয় রাজনীতিকে কেন্দ্র করে বাংলাদেশ এসোসিয়েশন অব সাউথজার্সী এবং বাংলাদেশ এসোসিয়েশন অব আটলান্টিক কাউন্টির সভাপতি সিটির মেয়রের কাছের লোক হিসাবে পরিচিত। মেয়রের সাথে সখ্যতার কারনে দুই সভাপতি নিজেদেরকে ডিপুটি মেয়র হিসাবে মনে করেন। তারা মনে করছেন দীর্ঘদিন তাদের নিজ নিজ সংগঠন যেভাবে জনগনের পছন্দ ছাড়া পরিচালিত হচ্ছে সিটির সবকিছুই তাদের ইচ্ছায় সেভাবে পরিচালিত হবে। তাদের ধারনা বাংলাদেশীদের মধ্যে বিবাদ যত বেশী থাকবে তারা মেয়র অফিস থেকে ততবেশী ব্যক্তিগত সুবিদা আদায় করতে পারবেন। বাংলাদেশীদের জন্য স্থায়ী শহীদ মিনার নির্মানের পর কিভাবে উদ্বোধন করা হবে তা সিটি নির্ধারন করেনা। তা নির্ধারিত হয়ে ছিল দুইজন সভাপতি এবং মাল্টিকালচারাল ডিপার্টমেন্টের বাংলাদেশী কর্মকর্তার যোগাজশে। যা ছিল অত্যন্ত নিন্মমানের চিন্তাধারা।সবাইকে সাথে নিয়ে শহীদ মিনার উদ্বোধন করলে তারা যেমন আটলান্টিক সিটিবাসীর কাছে হিরু হিসাবে পরিগনিত হতেন ঠিক তেমনি মেয়র, কাউন্সিলম্যান এবং ডাকটাউন সিডিসিসহ বিদেশীদের কাছে বাংলাদেশীদেরকে মর্যাদাশীল জাতি হিসাবে তুলে ধরতে পারতেন।প্রবাসের মূলধারার মানুষের সামনে নিজেদের গ্রুপিং আর কতৃত্ব নিয়ে টানাটানি প্রকাশ পাওয়ায় জাতি হিসাবে আমাদের নিজেদের মানসম্মান ক্ষুন্ন হয়েছে।
পৃথিবীতে ভাষার জন্য কোন জাতিকে প্রান দিতে হয়নি এবং প্রতিবাদও করতে হয়নি, কিন্তু বাংলাদেশীদের বায়ান্নের ভাষা আন্দোলন, উনসত্তরের গন আন্দোলন এবং একাত্তের স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রাম সবই অর্জিত হয়েছিল প্রতিবাদ এবং সংগ্রামের মাধ্যমে। তাই ক্ষমতার কাছাকাছি অবস্থানকারী স্বৈরতান্ত্রিক মনমানসিকতার অধিকারী নেতাদের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করা ছিল সময়ের দাবী।
আজকের এই সংবাদ সন্মেলনের প্রেক্ষিতে আগামী বছর ভাষা দিবসে হয়ত সকল বাংলাদেশী এক হয়ে স্থায়ী শহীদ মিনারে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পন করতে পারবে।
প্রবাসীরা এই অসুস্থ রাজনীতির অবসান চাই। শহীদ মিনারের পবিত্রতা বজায় রেখে সবাই মিলে একসঙ্গে ফুল দিবো এবং হীন মনমনিকতা ত্যাগ করে দল–মত নির্বিশেষে শহীদ মিনার হয়ে উঠুক আমাদের ঐক্যের প্রতিক এটাই সকলের প্রত্যাশা।
Atlantic News Desk : On Wednesday evening , September 30 , 2026 , a press conference was held at the Bengal Club of Atlantic City’s own office in the presence of local journalists currently residing in the United States and journalists associated with various media outlets in the United States . The press conference was attended by leaders of various political, social , cultural and regional organizations in South Jersey and representatives of conscious civil society , as well as about a hundred expatriate Bangladeshis.
Bengal Club Finance Secretary Helal Hasan read out a written statement at the press conference. At the beginning of his speech , he said that the main purpose of their press conference was not to personally attack any individual or organization. The main goal of their press conference was to protect the dignity of Shaheed Minar and speak for the unity and collective rights of the community. In the coming days, they are holding this press conference to create awareness for creating a platform to jointly celebrate Ekushey by bringing together social , political , cultural and regional organizations . Writer and journalist Ibrahim Chowdhury, Helal Hasan, Ali Chowdhury, journalist Subrata Chowdhury, journalist Mohammad Shahin , Mohammad Didar , Faruk Talukder, Sheikh Amin , Saeed Doha , Paplu Chowdhury , Asal New Jersey Chapter President Faruk Hossain , Enamul Haque , Sabur Mia , Zakir Hossain , Monirul Alam Babu , Sheikh Amin , Awlad Hossain and journalist Akbar Hossain spoke at the event as conscious citizens .
Speakers at the event called on all members of the community to work together to prevent any untoward situation from arising in the future. The press conference strongly condemned the offensive remarks made against Subrata Chowdhury, an elected member of the Atlantic City School Board and renowned journalist
.Helal Hasan placed special emphasis on four issues in his written speech .
First , the full history of Shaheed Minar should be preserved and presented , properly recognizing the contributions of all individuals and organizations involved from 2023 to the present .
Secondly, in future, public programs like Shaheed Minar and Ekushey should be held in open discussion and coordination with political, social, cultural and regional organizations, press clubs, Lions Clubs , business associations and other active community representatives . Thirdly, Shaheed Minar should be given the status of a public memorial of the entire community , without making it a symbol of the sole achievement or control of any individual , organization or limited group .
Fourth , personal and organizational disagreements should be kept outside the Shaheed Minar and resolved through discussion if necessary .
The speakers made it clear that they did not come to declare anyone an enemy, nor to belittle the contributions of any organization , nor did they seek division . In their words, “ We do not want conflict — we want respect . We do not want dominance — we want participation. We do not want singular achievement — we want recognition worthy of history. We do not want division — we want unity. ”
He said that if their demands are established, the Shaheed Minar will not just stand as a memorial , but through this , the spirit of Ekushey will be established and this Shaheed Minar will become a symbol of our unity .
Shaheed Minar is a symbol of the history and existence of our language struggle. A Shaheed Minar has been established in Atlantic City, which is a matter of great pride for Bangladeshis living abroad. But the issue of pride has created conflict, division , disappointment and anger . One of the reasons for this is the failure to perform the national anthem of Bangladesh at the inauguration ceremony, not even observing a minute of silence in memory of the language martyrs, disrespect towards the leaders of social organizations, undervaluing the freedom fighters living in the city , disrespect and indecent behavior towards Bangladeshis involved in education , culture and journalism . When the arrogance of power and the competition for credit increase more than national interests, then the issues of pride are no longer worth pride.
The City of Atlantic City has fully supported the construction of the permanent Shaheed Minar and the Ducktown CDC has financially supported it. Therefore, the City of Atlantic City and Ducktown CDC claim the credit for the construction of the Shaheed Minar . The question arises as to who requested or encouraged the City of Atlantic City and Ducktown CDC for the construction. Bangladeshis living in nearby cities including Atlantic City started living here three decades ago. Organization-loving Bangladeshis have demanded and requested the construction of a permanent Shaheed Minar in various ways and at various social events in the last 35 years . Not a single organization or individual. In view of their demand, this memorial structure has been built on the land provided by the city authorities and with the donation of Ducktown CDC . Behind this is the long-term efforts, labor and dreams of many people in our community. Standing in front of this installation, Bangladeshis in South Jersey will find a sense of pride in their identity, a touch of roots, and a deep connection with the history of the Bangla language, the international mother tongue. It will serve as a source of pride and inspiration for the new generation growing up abroad and commemorate the life of the language. To the heroic martyrs and the glorious struggle to establish the right to the mother tongue.
After watching the press conference held on Wednesday, September 30 , 2026 , numerous Bangladeshis living in South Jersey , New Jersey , are wondering why they are arguing or crying among themselves instead of celebrating the inauguration of the Shaheed Minar .
Focusing on local politics, the presidents of the Bangladesh Association of South Jersey and the Bangladesh Association of Atlantic County are known to be close to the city mayor . Due to their friendship with the mayor, the two presidents consider themselves deputy mayors. They believe that the way their respective organizations have been run for a long time without the people’s consent, everything in the city will be run according to their wishes. They believe that the more disputes there are among the Bangladeshis, the more personal benefits they can get from the mayor’s office. The city does not decide how the permanent Shaheed Minar for Bangladeshis will be inaugurated after the construction. It was decided in consultation with the two presidents and a Bangladeshi official from the Multicultural Department. Which was a very low-quality way of thinking. Just as they would have been considered heroes to the people of Atlantic City if they had inaugurated the Shaheed Minar with everyone, they could have presented Bangladeshis as a dignified nation to foreigners, including the mayor, councilman, and the Ducktown CDC. Our own dignity as a nation has been tarnished by the exposure of our own grouping and power struggles in front of the mainstream people of the diaspora.
No nation in the world has had to sacrifice its life for its language and has not had to protest, but the Bangladeshi language movement of 1952, the mass movement of 1969 and the independence struggle of Ekattur were all achieved through protest and struggle. Therefore, protesting against the leaders with autocratic mentality who were close to power was the demand of the time.
In the context of today’s press conference, perhaps all Bangladeshis will be able to come together to lay wreaths at the permanent Shaheed Minar on Language Day next year.
The expatriates want an end to this sick politics. Let us all join hands and offer flowers to the Shaheed Minar, maintaining its sanctity, and let us abandon our petty selfishness and let the Shaheed Minar become a symbol of our unity, regardless of party or ideology. This is the hope of all.
